Our waiters and waitresses - or ‘dub-dubs’ – spend a lot of time with our customers. It’s their job to make sure everyone who visits Friday’s gets individual attention, enjoys a brilliant meal and has a memorable time.
The job
I used to work in a supermarket stacking shelves, but I hated it. It was so monotonous. My mate at college told me there was part-time work going at Friday’s, so I applied and ended up going in for OJE – On the Job Experience. It went really well and I got offered a job as servicing assistant on the spot.
It was brilliant. I worked part-time, and the shifts fitted in really well around my studies. I was working 5 or 6 hours at a time, running around supporting the ‘dub-dubs’, making sure the tables were all good to go.
I tried out working on door and in the kitchen too, and soon got offered the chance to work as a dub-dub. It suited me down to the ground. I like the care and attention side of it – you get to really look after people, making recommendations and getting to know them.
The team
I love the atmosphere. Even when it’s busy, it’s tough but fun. I don’t know what it’s like at every Friday’s restaurant, but at ours everyone’s friends. I’m going out with a group of Fridoids tonight, but it doesn’t feel like a work night out at all.
The perks
The tips at Friday’s are fantastic. Friday’s are part of the Fair Tips Charter, and it really does make a huge difference to what pay you take home. Being able to work shifts is ideal when you’re studying. Ican even fit in the volunteer work I do with disabled children. If you need to chop and change shifts, you can just give a shout out and see if someone can cover you or do a swap. It works really well.
The future
I’m studying business management, and you never know – if there are opportunities within Friday’s for me, I’d love to move further up the ladder here.
Top tip
When you want a new challenge at Friday’s, just ask. Don’t keep quiet about it. They’ll help you find the role that suits you. They’ve even helped some of my mates transfer to Friday’s restaurants in other cities when they’ve gone to uni.
